I am dropping off a car rental in Florence at Garage Excelsior on via Palazzuolo,94 we are driving in from Cortona. What is the best route to take to avoid going through restricted Zones(ZTL)? Do Google map directions or using a GPS avoid these areas? Thank you

Is it possible to return the car to the airport? When I rent from AutoEurope, it doesn't cost extra to return to the airport, just to pick the car up at the airport. I, personally, would not take the chance.

I have dropped off in Florence before without problems but maybe the airport may be a better option. Does any one know where the drop off is at the airport? Thanks

We dropped off a rental car (Europcar) at the Florence airport without any problems. The location was well marked. The guy who checked the car in and inspected even called us a taxi right where we left the car. Having a GPS was very helpful.

I think all the rental agencies are in the same area. It was easy to locate them. The autostrada from which you will exit into the airport is very busy and we were concerned about the exit but the GPS got us off at the proper place. We have encountered places where returning a car was total confusion but Florence airport is not one of them. I will add that we did return a car once at Avis within the city and it was very tricky-streets changed names every block, etc. That was before having GPS and strict ZTL zones.

We returned our car to the airport (very easy) and then took an express bus into town. I think it was no more than 5 euro per person. The bus picks you up at the far side of the parking lot and drops you off at the train station.
