I am trying to make arrangements for a car rental in Florence to travel to our villa. I am wondering if anyone knows the closest and best car rental company to pick a car up either Arezzo or Florence train station. I could train from Rome to either location.

We dropped off at the Hertz location in Arezzo last October. They are located about a block from the station, very easy to walk to. They had just moved to that location so if you read old reviews they were farther away, but new location is great.

That is a big help. Our Villa is much closer to Arezzo than Florence, but we could do either.

Don't go for the lowest priced rental. Avis, Budget, Europcar seem to have the fewest complaints. Hertz and Sixt are decent. Avoid Goldcar, Locauto, and many of the the other low ball companies.
Also, remember that any non-EU driver in Italy needs an IDP - International Driving Permit, easily available from AAA in the US.
