We usually use AutoEurope. But this year I want to compare a few things. We'll be needing a larger vehicle that usual to carry four adults (two of them 80+) plus luggage. We pack lightly - Mom and Dad don't. They have had a smallish but roomy SUV in the past and have asked us to get "one of those". We can't get a full van because it would never fit in the village we go to.
Is it best to price compare through a consolidator or directly with the rental company?

Sally, we always go to the AutoEurope website, see what the rates will be from various pick-up locations(they can vary quite a bit; we usually never pick up a car at the airport),select the type of auto, and then, if we have ANY questions, give them a call on their 1-800 # in Maine.
They are extremely helpful, and will compare/discuss the differnet types of cars/vans that are available at the location that you are contemplating on using.
I have canceled/changed cars/reservations with them, and had no problems. This month I did not want to use the lowest price vendor they proposed, so I talked to them and changed vendors. Everything worked out perfectly.
