Car Rental Company Recommendation (Siena)

We are staying at Frances Lodge outside Siena and Frances has offered to book a car rental for us with EuropCar. I have been reading many horror stories about dealing with this company, although none of the complainants have rented from the Siena office. What car companies renting in Italy (Siena) have other Forum colleagues been satisfied with and what problems have you encountered? Many thanks for helping put my nervousness at rest. Pam

If you're going to be in Florence before going down to the Siena area, why don't you rent from Hertz or AutoEurope from one of the city locations (outside the ZTL)? They can give you easy directions on how to get out of town. You could return it at the same location, the airport or even down at Orvieto if you're heading for Rome.

I too have heard complaints on EuropCar.

I had a fine experience with Sixt in Palermo, also made arrangements online in the States, many weeks before my trip. They provided me a brand spanking new car, and even continue to send me birthday e-mails, years after my one rental, ain't that special?

I have rented from Europcar many times with no major complaints. They aren't any worse than the others.
You can find horror stories about anything and anyone on the Internet. Europcar is the most popular company in Italy, so you will have a higher probability of hearing stuff about them.
Just get no deductible insurance and go for it.

Pamela,
I have rented from Hertz, Avis, and Europcar in Siena with no problems. I have used Autoeurope with all three because I got a better deal. I think most of the problems reported on the boards is from individually owned franchises and not the parent company. I have not read about any problems in Siena.

I decided to go with Auto Europe and found a great zero-deductible rate for Siena. The Frances Lodge B&B we am staying at outside Siena got a price quote for me from a EuropCar rental agency close by. Auto Europe was able to give me the same car at the same agency for less money for zero-deductible than the hotel was able to get locally from the same agency for limited CDW. I am very impressed with AutoEurope's professionalism and customer service. I hope my trust is well-founded. Pam
