car rental companies and insurance

Has anyone used economycarrental.com? Apparently, they are an agent for other car rental companies. They appear to be somewhat less expensive than autoeurope.com. I'm wondering what experiences, if any, you may have had with either. Also, my travel insurance through AccessAmerica tells me I can upgrade my current coverage to include car rental insurance (CDLW) for an additional $20. Sounds like a good deal? Thanks for your thoughts.

Steve,
Thanks for your post. And, thanks for telling me about europebycar.com. I just checked their website, and, you’re right, I found their quotes better than the others. It’s amazing that they actually encourage calling them for service. I’d already check with Amex and Visa – neither cover rental cars in Italy. Thanks again! Have a great month in Paris! -May

Be very careful with those "...with all insurance included as well" claims because they usually come with a huge deductible. Unless you get a 0.00 euro deductible you're still likely to suffer big charges if you put a dent or scratch on the vehicle.

Yea..what Tim said!! When I looked into the car rental insurance we were offered, it had a $1500 deductible. We made other arrangements.

Thanks everyone for your comments! Steve, I checked again with Amex and Visa. Amex does NOT have coverage in Italy. However, Visa DOES, and they said I should decline CDW, or get the minimum if required. Thanks all!
