car rental Catania, Sicily

We rented a car for two weeks in October In Catania from Locauto. We had to return the car before the office opened due to our rescheduled flight time; we dropped the keys into a slot at the office there. It had no damage. However Locauto has claimed that there was a few hunted dollars damage. We notified our credit card company that this was not true. It still is unresolved .Has anyone else had this happen with this company? I would suggest to never use this company when renting a car.

This is after-the-fact advice, but the common wisdom is always to take pictures of the car when you return it. Based on our experience with Hertz at the same location, I would say that the ethics of the car rental companies there are very poor. They'll do and say anything to scam the tourist.

I'm sorry to hear this report. This is a common danger any time you have to leave the vehicle when the office is closed, without getting an agent's sign-off. If parked on the street, it could be more susceptible to actual damage. Stand your guns in the fight, but I don't know if you can expect success.

Rosalyn, it's a bit much to tar all the car rental companies "there" with the same brush. They are not all scammers .... How could you possibly know such a thing? We rented from Maggiore in Catania one year with no problem. In fact we were upgraded to an Alfa Romeo, much to my husband's delight.
