My husband and I are traveling for a couple of weeks from Venice to Prague. We will be picking up a rental car at VCE and returning to PRG. The drop-off fees are very high which we expected. Does anyone have any clever combinations of how we might pick-up or drop-off along the way to avoid these high fees?

What's your itinerary?
One obvious way to avoid the high fees is to take the train and/or bus between your itinerary cities and rent a car only as needed.
Venice 2 days
Pick up car
Dolomites 4 days
Austria -- around Hallstatt area 3 days
Austria - Wachua valley area 2 days
Drop off car - Prague
Prague 2 days
return car in Bolzano.
Train Bolzano to Innsbruck. Rent car in Innsbruck for Austria.
Return car in Vienna. Train to Praha.
