I would be a bit surprised if there is anything closer than the Florence airport.

Is doing the car thing ( pick up/drop off?) not possible on Saturday or Monday?

Yes, I think I’ll have to return it to Rome. I wanted to have a leisurely train ride but I have to leave on Sunday.

Arezzo to Florence, a one-hour train ride; taxi to Via Palagio degli Spini, the complex near the airport. Do not go to the terminal.

Hertz in Chiusi is a handy place to return a car Mon-Sat AM and take a train to Rome.

Some Europcar locations have key boxes and allow after hours drop off. I was able to do this in Verona. Don’t know about Arezzo. You might want to call AutoEurope on their toll free line. Their customer service folks might have a solution for you.

EDIT: Perugia airport has Sunday hours.
