We are planning on renting a car at the Florence Airport and want to drop it off in Pisa. Does anyone know how far Pisa Centrale is from the nearest rental car drop off location?
If you're going to be visiting Florence, why don't you pick the car up at a city location on your way out of town. The rental agent can give you directions to avoid any ZTL's. And rentals are always cheaper when picked up outside of airports or rail station locations.
As far as where to return the car in Pisa: Choose a brand of rental car and plug in a sample reservation noting down Pisa's rental location addresses. Then look those specific addresses up on Google Maps to see where they are in relation to Pisa Centrale.
We are flying into Florence from the States was hoping to pick up car at the airport.
Where are you going after dropping the car in Pisa?
At any rate, the easiest drop off location is at the Galileo Galilei airport (yes the Pisa airport is named after the famous astronomer, a Pisa native).
The airport is connected to the Pisa Centrale station via a driverless people mover called Pisamover. The ride is only about 6 min long.
We are catching a cruise in Civitavecchia. That’s great information about the people mover at the airport thank you!
You could try checking the distance in between using the Maps app. That should give you an idea.
I guess I would take it further and ask what your greater plans are?
How many days between picking up and drop off?
Where are you planning on going during that time?
What some are hinting at is a car can be a terrible liability in some areas, a necessity for some plans, and can come with risk of speeding and ZTL tickets. You need to make sure you really need a car and not viewing it as simply a given to get from point A to B.
In this instance you're probably better off using public transportation. Here is some info on getting from the airport to Florence.

To get to the cruise port, just do this in reverse.

Edit: just to clarify, it would look like this.
Airport-Florence tram/taxi.
Florence-Pisa train.
Pisa to Livorno train.
Livorno-port bus/taxi.
