Rick alluded to a new parking garage in the La Spezia Centrale Station in his most recent (2010) book on the CT. Anyone know if it's really there, daily cost, etc? Need to park for 3 days. Also, has anyone parked overnight in Levanto in the free lot near the hospital? Would there be a problem getting a space the 2nd wk of May? Thanks, Jim
Greetings ....we will be in Levanto...to park a car for train trip to Vernazza.
Rick mentions parking at Hospital lot (on the way into town from the north)..... except Wednesdays before 2pm...
However I can't find the hospital location on any map service..... have you located it or do you have an address???
Thanks, Will, Flagstaff, AZ

There are numerous postings and info about parking in Levanto and LaSpezia, yet there are frustratingly few specifics about exact locations, fees, limitations, etc for multiday stays. I found the Levanto hospital on a map which I found by googling "hospital in Levanto". Seems located on right side of main hwy coming in to town, 1/4 to a half mile before train station. No idea if OK to park for 3 days. Once parked free in the grassy lot on left side of main road coming in, about 5 minutes walk from train station. When when we returned after 3 days, our car was the only one in the lot, and a flyer in Italian, attached to windshield, had a graphic of a tow truck. This all scared us from ever thinking of parking there again for multiple days. A posting on tripadvisor.com mentionED another lot (free I think) reached by turning left just before the train station, going over a small river/ravine, then another immediate left, going up the road a short way to an alleged blue "P" sign designating some kind of lot. Another posting mentioned a lot "north of the church on via Mercado". I have looked at many maps of Levanto on web, including Google Earth (all poor), but it's not clear exactly where this particular lot is, and which street is "Via Mercado". Best option may be to explore the 3 options above when you get there, or 4th option: drop off wife and bags at train station, drive down to large waterfront lot (lots?) in Levanto (15 euros/day?), then walk or bus back up main road to train station.
La Spezia option for multiday parking: Have not found any confirmation that a parking garage is now open "under" the train station; (Rick says "under" station and "probably" open by now). It could be expensive, as a guarded lot Rick refers to charges 20 euros a day and about a 15 minute walk back to station. In La Spezia, would not trust leaving car on street for 3 days around train station or even at the free Piazza di Armi, as some postings mention break-ins, etc.
