Car PARKING in Florence area.

We are planning on traveling to Europe May 2024. Major stops in order are Rome, Florence, Cinque Terre, Berner Overland,Colmar, Strassburg, St. Goar, Cochem, Brussels, Bruges, Honfleur, Bayeux-- D-Day, St. Michelle, Paris for a 6 week trip. Will start in Rome (4 days) then (Lease Car) for remainder. Due to Florence not being Car Driver friendly, I wanted to know best way to go. Park car in Florence (Best Place?) and rent VRBO or AirBnB, or stay in town like Fiesole with car and Train back and forth (30 min) or some other town just outside Florence where we can park car safely and bus in/out.

Thanks

We also parked a ways out and took the tram into town. It was fun to travel by tram. We stayed at a hotel that had free parking.

Park right downtown at Via Borgo Ognissanti,96; the Interparking Garage Europa. Use a viamichelin route to avoid the ZTL.

This is the web site for Florence city parking silos https://www.fipark.com/parcheggi/

Places are on the scarce side and some offers are sold out, but a weekly ticket for the parking under the railway station at eur 100 or eur 15 per day at the Parterre are not bad offers. Also a eur 130 per month at Parterre could be considered but months are solar ones (1st to 30th or 1st to 31st) and may not work for everybody.
There are also private parkings, you could try to ask to your accomodation.

There are no free parking spaces in Florence, the only possible exception - frankly I do not feel to recommend it - is leaving the car in the Coop supermarket car park at viale Nenni and go on with the tram. But it looks to me that villa Costanza would be a safer even if a not so more expensive alternative.

Do you plan to take day trips around Tuscany while in Florence?

If the answer is yes, I would want to have a rental apartment close enough to a parking garage (or with parking) where I can park my car and from which I can go in and out for my day trips.
I wouldn’t want to have my car parked in Scandicci (a suburb of Florence where Villa Costanza parking is located) if my rental apartment is in the city center or anywhere far. Find the place you’d like to rent, and I will tell you the best parking solution for that area.

If the answer is no, and you don’t plan ever use the car at all while in Florence, then it doesn’t matter. Villa Costanza or Viale Europa are not expensive.

A few years ago, we stayed in Fiesole and took the bus into Florence. We really liked Fiesole but it wasn't ideal as my husband does not have the stamina to keep going all day long. He prefers to rest for part of the afternoon and then venture back out. Being right in Florence would have made it easier, for us. But for younger or more energetic people, Fiesole makes a good base. Last year, we stayed at Hotel Betania in Florence (outside of the ZTL) which has a secured, large, free parking area. It was easy to drive to and was about a 25 minute walk to the Ponte Vecchio. It was pretty much all uphill going back. This year, we found the best solution for us. We stayed at the Piazza Pitti Palace (a hotel with beautiful rooms) which is directly across from the Pitti Palace. They use a parking service (at a cost of 35 euros per day). We felt it was well worth it. They picked the car up right in front of the Pitti Palace and delivered it back to us several days later when we were ready to leave Florence. We knew we did not want to use a car at all while we were in Florence nor make any day trips out of the city. They also took care of the paperwork notifications for being in the ZTL.
