I use romecabs.com all the time. They are wonderful. Costs around 55 euros. You can also try romeshuttlelimousine.com. Both are private transfer companies that send private cars to pick you up. Donna

The fixed rate for an official cab from the airport to old Rome is 48E for 1 to 4 persons and luggage. A car and drive, depending on time, around 60E. Try Romecab.com. Also, look at roninrome.com

Have you considered riding the train from the airport into Rome and getting a cab from the train station? It's easy to do and a fraction of the cost of a cab or limo -- and you get to experience some of the culture as well.

The train is cheaper than a taxi or private driver unless you have two or more people traveling together. It's 14 euros each for the train and then 10 or so for the taxi to the hotel. For an additional 10 euros (assuming there are only two of you traveling together) I would prefer to take a taxi directly to my hotel instead of dealing with the train and then the line for the taxi. I would be careful about saying your suggestion is a fraction of the cost as it could get close to equal. For two, the train is 28E, plus the cost of taxi to the hotel. Which, depending on location, could be another 10 to 15E making total cost in the range of 38 to 43E. There is a value to the convenience of just getting into the cab and getting out at your hotel. Might be worth 10E?

You are smart to do this. We have done it both ways, and will always hire a car in the future! The train ride was an adventure, but there is not enough room for luggage even if you are traveling light. By the time you figure out where the train station is in the airport and how to get tickets, then wait for your train, you probably burn an hour. I think we used Rome-in-Limo for our transfer -- but the driver was wonderful, pointing out sights and explaining some of the history. Our drive was quick and pleasant, and we arranged for pick-up with the same driver when it was time to leave. Jan

Another endorsement for RomeCabs. We've used them twice for transfers and they are extremely reliable. For about the same amount as a taxi, I much prefer RomeCabs ss they use comfortable roomy cars and the drivers are always safe and drive conservatively (the same can not always be said for taxi drivers in Rome!). Have a great trip.

Lorraine, Good idea to take a cab from the airport. I wish I had done that. We spent a good amount to take the train from the airport to the train station. Then, had to pay some mafia run cab another 50 Euros to take us on a hell ride to our hotel. they are con artists. TAKE THE CAB FROM THE AIRPORT,, PLEASE! Bill
