capri to florence

I will be going the opposite way from capri to florence. Is the train from sorrento to napoli decent was think about going that route instead to limit subways twice with heavy luggage so much from the naples port to napoli. Does anyone know if a taxi or transportation that picks people up from naples ferry port and takes directly to the napoli station. If so what is cost. Thanks

Whether it's "decent" depends on who you ask. The Circumvesuviana is a battered, no-frills commuter frequented by locals and tourists alike, it's really cheap, and gets the job done. You need to keep a sharp eye and firm hand on your valuables but that's a requirement on public transit pretty much anywhere in Italy. It didn't bother us but I think people who haven't taken public city transport in the U.S. - such as the "L" in Chicago - find it off-putting.

You may also be able to take the Campania Express train, depending on schedule and season. I covered that one in this recent thread:

Otherwise, I'm sure you can catch a cab at the port in Naples, and I can't imagine it would cost very much.

Do be aware that you will need to take a public bus or taxi from the port in Sorrento up to the train station. You'll also need to have your luggage portered up/down from the docks in Capri if you can't manage it yourselves. Speaking of managing luggage, the heavier and bigger it is, the more difficult it's going to be to manage. Many hotels do not have elevators, and you'll need to be able to wrestle them in and out of trains and up and down steps other places as well. We don't travel as lightly as some other folks on this forum but I sure wouldn't go with a 40-pound, 25" bag.

I'm not sure why you would go from Capri to Sorrento if your goal is to get to the Naples train station as directly and quickly as possible.

The simplest way, especially if burdened with luggage, is just to take the ferry to Naples and a taxi to the station.
