Hello, has anyone ever rented a scooter on Capri? I know the AC can be crazy, but without the extra traffic, we were thinking that a scooter would be a great way to explore the Island? Any advice, or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, and a Big Happy Mothers Day to all!
If you're comfortable on a scooter and riding in narrow uphill lanes, then go for it. I really liked exploring on foot, it was a good workout. There really is no traffic (except the tourist hordes in the main square) because cars aren't allowed. There are also buses running form Capri to Anacapri and small taxis (they looked like Smart Cars to me but this was a few years ago).
We just rented scooters on Capri in October. It was AWESOME! We were there only for the day so we were happy we got them. We took them all over the island. It was a blast. I don't remember where we rented them from but it was straight up the street after we got off the ferry.
Just be aware that there are many places on the island that you cannot ride any sort of motorized vehicle at all. Some of those places - accessible only on foot - are some of the best places to explore.
how long did you rent the scooter for and did you get to see everything ? Did you park and ride the chair lift to Montesolarno or park and walk into Capri Town? Here is one map that shows points of interest and parking this is the company that Rick recommends in his book. http://www.capriscooter.com/images/pdf/itinerari-capri.pdf
callen510 - we have not left for our trip as of yet. Thanks for the link.
+1 for Kathy. You may have had the illusion that you went all over the island on your scooter, but you didn't. At least Capri seemed less dangerous a place for a scooter than many other hot sunny destinations. But despite the lighter traffic, you have plenty of curves and steep hills. All the best parts of Capri are pedestrian-only.
Thanks Aly for sharing your experience. I appreciate your encouraging us to rent. We like hiking too, but thought this would be a great bit of fun for a few hours. Cheers!
