Watched RS's video on the Blue Grotto and not sure I could handle the enclosed space....particularly the entry through the small hole. Anybody have problems with it?
Also sounds like it's very expensive and very dependent on the the conditions of the sea as to whether or not you can even enter the cave. With limited time available, is this a "must see" or a "miss?"
To my wife & I it was a 'must see'. Can't relate to the cost as it was part of a short tour package & I tend to not limit memorable vacations by pinching pennies. I'm not in Italy every year. The 'entry' is so fast that it's over before you know it. Once inside, you'll forget all about your concerns as it is breathtakingly beautiful. I tend to be claustrophobic but had no problem as the interior is quite large actually. It is dependent on sea conditions but that area is generally calm. Go, enjoy.
We did the Blue Grotto a couple years ago and still talk and laugh about it today. We are glad we did it but wouldn't do it again if we return to Capri. It is a bit pricy as you pay for the boat ride to the entry and once there, after jockeying for a spot in line to get into smaller boat, you pay an entry fee. Then the guy that rows you around inside the grotto and sings expects a tip. We were here in the summer and the weather was stunning so the boat ride to the grotto entrance was beautiful. Once in the small row boat you need to lay way back while you go through the opening so you don't hit your head. (our family of 4 all fit in one rowboat) Therefore if the sea is rough you won't be able to enter even if you have taken the boat out to the entrance. I don't like enclosed spaces but had no problem going in here. I would say go for it and enjoy!
