We are going to Capri for a day trip and to a beach club during the day while there. The beach club closes at 7pm. If we leave around 6pm, walk around for a bit, and have dinner in Capri how can you get back to Positano after 7pm? Are there private boats you can take back and should they be booked ahead of time?
There are private transfers, but very expensive. Not sure how late they run.
There is a ferry to Naples at 20:05, but you'd need to transfer from the port to Napoli Centrale and take the Circumvesuvian back to Sorrento.
Do check the Circumvesuvian schedule before making any plans to do this.
Edit to add.

This is all I can find and I'm not sure if they do a one-way Capri> Positano run. If so, I'm just guessing it would be very expensive. I'd just have lunch instead of dinner on Capri and leave the beach in time to take the last ferry out.

Gerri, apologies if this is pretty much the same service you've linked.
Ok thanks. I saw the boat to train too but that’s too much. I reached out to a few private boat companies but I’m thinking it’s going to be an arm and a leg in cost too. Thank you for your ideas. Wasn’t sure if I was missing something.
Are you buying a ferry ticket from Positano to Capri? If so, they will press you to buy a specific return ferry at the same time. From May to September, there are good reasons for that! Do it. How many vertical stairs from the ferry to your room in Positano?
Tim how do I find out vertical stairs? Our address is Via Arienzo 02, Positano,
We are doing the same thing- Positano to Capri for a day trip and going to a beach club. But was planning on doing lunch there and ferry back in the afternoon. Which club are you going to? We are going to Luigi Au Faraglioni.
Well, if you’re young and fit, maybe it doesn’t matter. Your hotel should tell you. It’s just nice to know before you arrive. We stayed in less glamorous Sorrento, much of which is level. Capri is highly pedestrianized, and if you do anything besides the beach club, you’ll be tired when you get back.
If you are staying at Villa Pietra Santa, you will be directly above Arrienzo beach and Bagni d'Arienzo Beach Club. With a club THAT close, I don't know as I'd spend time in Capri doing the same thing you could do just steps down from your hotel?
Reviews of this property; look for comments about the "private" beach.

Amanda yes that’s the club we booked. I also booked lunch there. But my boss just got back and suggested dinner in town so got my wheels spinning!
Kathy yes I know I booked that beach club, steps down from our villa (can’t wait) and Treville Beach Club too another day. We will do Capri one day and one day at Pompeii. Good suggestion on beach clubs but my husband made it clear he just wants to relax. We will walk around of course too but you did make a good point that maybe it’s too many.
Capri is not known for beaches.
Make sure u have all reserved for your Capri day. Ferries stop in evening do to cruise traffic.
Your hotel is outside of Positano and it's not safe to walk along the narrow Amalfi Coast highway. You'll probably need take a taxi or other transportation into Positano and walk from where you're dropped off, most likely at Piazza dei Mulini, to the ferry dock. There a quite a few stairs between the piazza and the ferry dock, but they're fairly shallow and not that difficult to navigate.
