I will be visiting Naples in November and was wondering if visiting Capri or Ischia would be possible for a day trip in mid November? I know many hotels close in November but are not sure if the towns are open?
The towns are open,
Ferries run weather permitting.

Ferry to Ischia. Sometimes doesn't run out of Naples but will run out of Pozzuoli.
Metro map Naples.
Ischia has hot springs which could make the trek out there on the ferry all worthwhile. As a courtesy I have attached a travel article which may help in your decision making. I loved Ischia. It has a completely different feel than everywhere else in the Bay of Naples. Even in high season there are not many tourists; it feels like it is just you, the Italians and the occasional German. I hope this helps you decide. Buona Fortuna!
Ischia gets 6 million visitors a year. Apart from Italians who pack the place out in August, the bulk of visitors are still from Germany. (Ischia was the first place in Italy where I was asked (in German) whether I wanted whipped cream on my cappuccino! The other was on Lake Garda). Russian numbers are also growing. However, it should be quiet in November but with a resident population of over 60,000 should not feel too shut down. At least you should be able to get on the buses!
Capri should be quieter from after the Nov 1 public holiday until the Christmas/New Year festivities. During this period some hotels shut down as will the tourist orientated shops/restos. Ordinary shops and restaurants catering for the island residents will be open. This is also true for the other smaller holiday destinations in the area, they like to take a break before Christmas opening.
As said your only problem could be the weather. This is one of the times we take a holiday in Sorrento each year and during our stays there has been at least one day with high winds and curtailed sailings on the Bay of Naples but fingers crossed.
Thank you all. This is great information.
We definately want to visit Ischia...
My husband and I went to Ischia and Capri 2 years ago fall (end of September/beginning of October). Ischia was very cool (in particular the thermal baths) and I'm definitely glad we went, but in my opinion, it just doesn't compare with Capri. Capri is just special. We've actually been there several times because we love it so much. It's very charming and (in my opinion) more walkable and accessible than Ischia. We spent 5 days in each place. If I had to do it over again, I'd do less time in Ischia and more time in Capri (although I'm sure that many people would disagree with me). It's just a matter of taste, really. I do think closures at that time of the year will be an issue, as you mentioned. I believe that our resort was closing the next weekend. We're actually in the process of trying to pull together a trip for the first two weeks in May...and I'm trying to convince my husband that we still have other parts of Italy to explore and it doesn't make sense to go back to Capri so quickly. We'll see if I cave or not. :)
