Capri lodging recommendations

We will be traveling to Amalfi Coast this July and are planning to spend 2 nights on Capri. The reviews for the hotels I have looked at seem to vary from wonderful to would never go back.. any recommendations on nice hotel ( 3-4 star) would be appreciated.

I haven't been to Capri and don't plan to, based in part on all the negatives I keep hearing about it. Have you considered Sorrento instead, with maybe a daytrip to Capri? I know it's not exactly what you asked, so feel free to ignore.

I have to agree with Michael. I'd stay in Sorrento (Love it) and do a day trip to Capri (don't love it).

Capri in July will resemble Disney World in July. As the others have said, base yourself in Sorrento. You will love it!

We've stayed on Capri and found it an enjoyable experience. Not a 3-4 star, but Hotel La Tosca is rated number one on TripAdvisor for good reason - great rates, friendly owner, good views, super clean, and liked the location. I can't imagine that you'd be disappointed with this choice. Nights are fun in Capri - found some good restaurants, and great people watching when all the "beautiful people" come out to be seen. Anacapri during the day is not to be missed - wonderful San Michele Church with the majolica tile floor, the villa, had some sandals made by Antonio Viva (saw him on Giada's Food Network show) - fun experience and he and my husband shared beers over leisurely conversation, and fun taxi ride back to the town of Capri. One regret is not taking the chairlift to Mount Solaro, but we did the Blue Grotto from the marina on a tour boat and although "touristy," we didn't want to miss it. Also, we had some good walks/hikes on Capri. Everyone recommends Sorrento (we're going this fall), but I must say, we loved Capri.
