Is it necessary and more efficient to schedule a tour with a guide? Or, is it easy enough to get around on your own on the island and find a boat tour when we are there. We are only there 1 day and notice some of the full day tours are very expensive. Are they worth it? Any recommendations of full tours or boat tours? Thank you
We booked a trip for the day in June (yes, very expensive), but wondered the same thing. As I looked into it, I believe it's possible, but almost as expensive. Where are you starting out?
A guide isn't necessary. Be aware that the tour boats may not go out due to rough seas. We were there for three or four nights and only could out on the boat the last day. It wasn't the highlight of our stay either. Walk on the pedestrian pathways from Giardini Agosto to Punta Tragara, beautiful views and landscapes for lovely way to spend time on Capri.
There's no need at all for a guide on Capri. Just spend some time with the website and choose want you want to do on your own. We spent two nights on the island, skipped the Blue Grotto, skipped the boat tours (seeing the sea FROM the island was enough) and had a great time.

We visited Capri as a day trip from Sorrento. We took the ferry over in the morning. I wish I had booked our ferry tickets a day or two earlier as the 5pm ferry was booked so we had to take a 3 pm ferry back to Sorrento. We would have liked the extra 2 hours. When we arrived, walking down the pier, there was a boat company called Motoscafisti selling tickets for a boat ride around the island with a stop at the blue grotto. I don't remember how much the tickets were, but they were not expensive. So we went. The tour around the island was about 2 hours not including the blue grotto. That was about another hour or a little more. If you did not want to stay for the grotto, they put you on another boat to finish the island tour and back to the pier. The boat ride had about 12 passengers. It was worth the money and we enjoyed it. We were there the middle of September. I would think in late June, July or August it might be crazy busy and take a lot longer. We were able to take the Funicular up the hill and walked around all the shops and alley ways. Then back down and had a late lunch along the pier. The only pre plan we had was knowing the day we were going to visit Capri. Everything else was as we went.
Thank you for all of your comments and suggestions. We are coming from Naples to the person who asked. I think you are right. Just get there then figure it out.
I was thinking the same. I think I’ll do it when I get there. Where can you schedule to ferry online?
