Capri in March

Is it worth trying to go to Capri for day in March? Is water calm enough?

Depends on the weather. We went for a day in March when the weather was sunny and surprisingly warm- perfect for all the walking we did. Wouldn't do it if it was raining, though.

The ferries are scheduled in March.
But the weather no one can predict has an effect on the calmness of the water.

Lots of people live in Capri and stopping the ferries because of high seas is an extremely rare event. Usually only the hydrofoils are affected by high seas, not the large slower ferries.

Ferries to everywhere along the Amalfi, such as Positano, are not running in March, although the SITA buses are. And it would help to know where you're trying to get to Capri from? There are no ferries to Pompeii, only trains or buses.

Thanks for all the replies....

We will be taking the ferry from Sorrento. Is Capri doable for the day without a tour guide?

We took the hydrofoil to Capri from Sorrento on 25 March 2017. Beautiful warm day, calm waters, no problems. Would recommend (1) going to Anacapri to see the beautiful tile floor of the Church of San Michele, (2) taking the chair lift to the top of Mont Solaro, and (3) taking a one-hour cruise around the island. We did this on our own; no tour guide needed (but had the RS Italy Guidebook for info). The quickest and easiest way to get to Anacapri from where the hydrofoil docks is to grab a cab. Otherwise, it is a very long uphill walk.

Yes. We had more time on the island than you will but we managed easily with just some advance reading and a map purchased at the tourist info center. Their official tourism site pushes tours pretty hard but you don't need them; just use the sightseeing information.
