Am planning a trip for May or August 2021 when I hope all this is behind us.
I have been to Capri and the Blue Grotto. We took a boat around the island at that time and did not go to Capri Town or
Anacapri. This time we are taking my daughter and granddaughter.
In reading RS book I see that you can take a bus to the Blue Grotto but it does not indicate if you can actually board a boat to take you into the Grotto once you get there.
If anyone can help on this question I would appreciate it.
Shelley, this should provide all the info you need to know:

Personally? Having stayed on Capri for a couple of nights, the Blue Grotto is probably the last thing I'd choose to use my time and $$ for. I don't know how long ago you did it but given the reviews on TA, the experience hasn't been great for a fair amount of visitors. Most complaints involve the price for the very short amount of time you're in the thing, and temperamental boatmen hassling customers for tips. Take a look?
We skipped it altogether and didn't feel as if we'd missed anything; lots of other things to see and do on the island, and you can do almost all of them on your own without a tour (even though the website tries really hard to sell those.)
If you don't have mobility issues, hoofing it to some of the more interesting/scenic locations is one of the better activities :O)
We loved the memorable experience of seeing the Blue Grotto! I’ve also read on this forum to pass on climbing the Leaning Tower of Pisa because the entrance fee is the cost of a pizza. Why travel to iconic places when you could just sit at home and look at pictures online?
You can take the bus from Annacapri to the blue grotto. Runs every 15-20 minutes.

It's a short walk from the bus stop to the steps.
Several years ago my grandaughter & friends did get a boat from the steps, but I don't know if it's possible anymore.
I do however agree with Kathy, other sights will
be of more advantage.
Edit:
Personally, though it's a tad more money, we used the taxis While on Capri. Much more enjoyable than the bus.

alohalover, it's more than just the price. It's the price and the lead-up time it takes in relationship to the few minutes you spend inside, and that just enough visitors have felt uncomfortable with the treatment from the rowers to consider other options.
That said, I do understand that other visitors have found it worth their time/$$, and you obviously were one of those on your prior visit, Shelley. You also are probably aware that getting inside the cave is not a given depending on how rough the sea is?
While I understand that it’s not explicitly spelled out, I think the expectation of meeting a small boat after the bus is implied in the last two paragraphs on p. 1074 of RS Italy 2020.
Thank you all for your input. Kathy we were there in 2006. Nothing has changed as per the other posts.
It was bedlam trying to get our guide boat to sequester the smaller boat to let you in the Grotto. It was not cheap back then
as well. I think time will be better spent to explore the island instead.
Are there any suggestions of a good restaurant with a view for a late lunch.
Hello Shelley,
I'm not sure anybody actually answered your question. Yes, you can take the bus there and then just walk down the steps where the small row boats are going to be and you can buy a ticket and go into the grotto.
I advise you to check the tide tables and plan your day accordingly so you won't be disappointed as you can only enter the grotto on the lower tide times and it will be closed off at high tide.
Capri tide tables for you: https://www.tide-forecast.com/locations/Capri/tides/latest
Thanks Mike- didn't really have the answer before. Will look into this as well as boat trip to the Grotto.
