We are planning a day trip to Capri at the end of May, on the 24th. Our main interest is visiting the Blue Grotto and exploring all the island's tourist spots. We're considering renting a scooter. Do you have any suggestions? Is renting a scooter ideal? And will we find parking spots in our desired locations, or would it be better to take the public transport?
khush, do you have experience with scooters? If not, the general view is that Italy is no place to learn to operate one.
You have a lot of research to do, the Search box (blue, top center) on this board may be helpful to you. Capri has very limited public transit, and many locations are pedestrian-only. The island is quite large, with many changes in elevation, so it's hard to cover in just one day. Of course there are high points that many people want to see. We skipped the Blue Grotto, which is often considered a time-sucker, and the one thing you don't have is extra time.
I can't recall if I saw any scooters on Capri or not, but it would seem to me to be an accident waiting to happen on Capri. The roads are steep climbs with hairpin turns. We didn't bother with the Blue Grotto and still had plenty to see and do for a full day in Anacapri and Capri Town. We made use of the local transit which worked for us.
We did Capri many years ago and it had steep hills, not a great place to operate a scooter.
We did enjoy the Blue Grotto.
Capri has steep roads that border on the side of cliffs. Plus these roads have lots of traffic. I would NOT rent a scooter, unless your life insurance or travel insurance is paid up.
Besides the grotto, it might help if you could tell us what your desired locations are? What tourist spots appeal? That may determine suggestions for getting to-and-from. Some of them involve expending shoe leather and no other option. In general you're going to do a lot of walking, and many of those tourist spots will likely be very busy.
