Hi all -
Is Capri worth spending a night or 2 in or is it better as a day trip? We are trying to figure out if the last 2 nights of our trip we should stay in Sorrento or Capri, to then ferry back to Naples where our flight leaves. We will be staying in Positano the prior 6 nights.
Also, if we do stay in Capri, do you suggest Capri or Anacapri?

I would say make your ferry trip unencumbered by luggage - stay in Sorrento and do a day trip. With 2 nights to play with you are only looking at one full day regardless. I am sure evenings in Sorrento are comparable with those on Capri - restaurants and ambience.
I agree with previous comment. Having said that my wife and I stayed in Anacapri last May and loved it. But it's a lot if not there for 2-3 nights preferably 3 for me. It is more laid back than Capri which is what we prefer .

Personally I don't think any tourist-intensive place is better as a daytrip. But, if you stay overnight and the ferry is delayed or cancelled due to weather, you should have a "cushion" of time (at least one night) to get to Napoli for your flight.
We have done both, a day trip and also spent the night. One time in Capri and one time in Anacapri. I hated the day trip....too crowded and too many tourists. I read you should spend the night to really enjoy the island, so we booked the following year. I would recommend La Tosca. Fair price and Ettore will help you guide all the back paths. We also stayed almost a week in Anacapri in a villa and enjoyed that.
