Capri and Sorrento hotel suggestions

My husband and I visited The Amalia coast in 2019. We want to stay on Capri a couple nights. Any recommendations for a nice, clean place under $400? We are also interested in staying in Sorrento near the water. The hotels on the cliffs look beautiful with amazing views. Is there one that might be recommended? Again, we would like a place under $400. Thank you for suggestions.

LaurDi,
Our favorite hotel in Sorrento is Grand Hotel De La Ville. It has gorgeous views of The Bay of Naples and Mt. Vesuvius. Well appointed rooms, central location, and the best breakfast we had on the AC. https://www.delavillesorrento.com/
I can’t comment on accommodations in Capri, since we were there for a day tour.

Palazzo Jannuzzi Hotel is right on Piazza Tasso in the heart of Sorrento. Three rooms in the front of the hotel have a nice large terrace overlooking Piazza Tasso, other front and side rooms have a smaller terrace. The hotel is adjacent to the Old Town, and is very convenient to the train station or the Marina Piccola ferry landing.

You will hear the sounds of a lively city out on the terrace, but we found the rooms to be very quiet inside, especially at night. Sitting on the terrace and listening to the church bells on a Sunday morning is a special experience.

Several of the cliff front hotels have common ownership. We liked the Ambasciatori, one of those. We paid extra for waterfront view and balcony. I consider air conditioning important.

We didn't sleep on Capri, but make sure about luggage handling on this highly pedestrianized island.

Pre Covid, occupancy at these two locations tended to be very high. Make a list of attractive places.

I don't know about Capri but Rick Steves likes Hotel Minerva in Sorrento. It looks amazing and my friend and I will be staying there in a month. Beautiful sea views with a Balcony. Depending on room the prices vary. I just discovered a discount site called Agoda. It's similar to bookings and hotels. Com. Its a 4 star hotel I believe. Use one of those sites to reserve your hotel. Ciao

I enjoyed the Grand Hotel Riviera, right on the water. You can take an elevator down to their Sorrento style "beach" (lounge chairs on the docks with ladders into the water) in addition to a pool. It is about an 8-10 minute (flat) walk to Piazza Tasso, right along the water. It was always a beautiful way to end the evening after a nice dinner.

Staying at a hotel on the cliffs overlooking the Bay of Naples is wonderful. We stayed at Bellevue Syrene which had amazing views, but it was expensive. Other hotels right near it that are under $400 that looked nice would be Imperial Hotel Tramontoro, Grand Hotel La Favorita, and Hotel Regina. This area near the Villa Communale park with the elevator down to the marina is nice. It is also near the Centro Storico area which has lovely shops and restaurants. Sunset views by Villa Communale are gorgeous!

In Capri, look at Hotel La Minerva, a boutique hotel with beautiful views of the sea, away from crowds on a pedestrian lane.. Excellent service too.
Sorrento,Beautiful, well located, with multiple balconies, views of Bay of Naples and Vesuvius,
Eden House, two bedroom apartment overlooking grounds of Grand Hotel Excelsior.

Thank you so much for all of this wonderful information.

Do you have recommendations for hotels in Positano? We stayed at Marincanto in 2019. The view was spectacular. I've been looking at the Poseiden Hotel but, I'm not sure what the views will be like...maybe overlooking roof tops?

We have stayed at Hotel Buca di Bacco in Positano a few times and highly recommend it. The location is perfect, next to the duomo, Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta, overlooking Marina Grande beach. Rrooms in the annex have amazing views day and night, some of those rooms have a nice terrace, top floor rooms only have a small balcony. Buca di Bacco is a beautiful hotel with first class service.

We enjoyed staying at Hotel Savoia in Positano.
Lovely hotel, great location and stunning view.
We were on a culinary tour in Southern Italy and had a cooking class at the hotel. We would certainly return. savoiapositano.it
