Capri's Blue Grotto

To do the Blue Grotto tour in Capri do you have to book ahead, or is it just a wing it type thing when you get there?

Right at Marina Grande, the port you will arrive in from either Naples or Sorrento, you will find several operators offering boat trips to the grotto. Easy pick. Or ask the the harbor tourist office. Another thing you could do is talk to other tourists on your way to Capri and share a boat after arriving - either going all the way around the island including a transfer to the grotto oar boats, or excluding it. Depending on your time on Capri, you can also take a bus to its end stop, right next to the grotto, and board a small oar boat there.

Make sure the boats are running to the Blue Grotto before you purchase your boat tickets; I understand that if the seas are rough, the boats don't run.

Get there early and prepare to pay for the experience. The sooner you can grab a boat to Capri, the better. The first boat will take you from Marina Grande to Capri. Then you'll catch another boat at Capri harbor to the Blue Grotto. Once there, you will transfer into a small row boat to go inside the cave. You will be paying for each of these boat rides. Prepare to pay a combined price of 90-100 euro for a couple (2 people). Search the Travelers helpline on Rick's website for exact details. His guidebook also has the info. The price sounds a little steep, but dont scrimp on this one....It Is Worth It!
