Hi guys, we have just booked 2.5 weeks at Capo Vaticano and looking for suggestions as to highlights of the area and should we buy a rail pass or rent a car. Also how to get from Lamezia Terme Airport to Capo?
Welcome all feedback.

It looks like there are several taxi options (one was 125 euro for up to 3 people), but no train service. A rail pass would not be the best choice for southern Calabria, lots of places can only be reached by bus, and only conveniently reached by car. I would rent a car (I almost never say that).
As for sights, pull out a map to orient yourself - there are lots of parks and nature preserves in the area. Reggio di Calabria is nearby, and so is Tropea in the opposite direction. Google images for some of the towns or sights that you find on the map and see what appeals to you.
If you have 2.5 weeks, you could go to the islands off the coast of Sicily, but that would require a couple of nights (or more) away from Capo Vaticano.
This is a beautiful part of the country.
You will definitely need a car for this area so rent one at the airport, unless things have changed in 6 years. We stayed in Tropea for a week, a 'holiday' during our 3 month European travels. This is a very beautiful area, but remember that Calabria is a very poor area with not a lot of money for infrastructure (i.e.. roads, etc.). You also might need a rudimentary knowledge of Italian, we certainly did when we were there. There was a day boat trip that picked people up along the coast, including Capo Vaticano and took us to three of the Aeolian Islands of Vulcano, Lipari, and Stromboli. It was a lovely trip. The swimming is superb! Hope this has helped!
I didn't know about the Lipari islands daytrip, good idea.
