Capitoline Museum Questions

Hello helpful travelers!!
We are visiting Rome April 18-26 this spring. I am interested in this museum in general and specifically would like to go to Montemartini, which is located a distance away from the main museum. There is so MUCH information on the museum website that I have been left with several questions:

Is there a central location to buy tickets for the main museum and exhibition sites as well as for the Montemartini site?
If so, where is it located?

Is there a benefit to buying tickets on-line to have a reserved entry time? Several on this forum have said that lines are not a problem at this museum. But most of those posts seem to have been from a couple of years ago. So I am double-checking for recent experience. I like the flexibility of not being tied to a reservation. At the same time, I don’t want to stand in a huge, long line.

I read on the Capitoline Museum site that there is an IOS video app which I can purchase and download through the App Store to enhance my visit. However, when I visit the app store, I find “Museum Buddy” which 1) is an audio (not video) app and 2 ) does not appear to be under the auspices of the Capitoline Museum. Has anyone used this or another app vs. the audioguide offered by the museum. Experiences with either/or? (We have enjoyed most museum audioguides in Europe)

All tips, suggestions and information (especially experience-based) are welcome and appreciated. Susan

I'll let more recent visitors answer the ticketing questions, but want to recommend that after you've been to cafes in the centro historico it will be a fresh breeze to try out any of the cafes near the Montemartini along the Via Ostense, where commuters stop on their way home from work downtown. Fresher and much cheaper than what you find within the historic triangle.

We visited this museum in 2024 (and in July, so high season) and were able to just purchase tickets on the day. I don't think we even had to queue.

My last visit was October 2022 so several years ago. I had to queue for a few minutes but it was because they had closed for lunch or something and we were waiting for them to reopen. This is not a busy venue. I would just go by when you have time in your schedule.

I did not visit the Montemartini site so no information on ticket sales there.

I have not had good luck with non-official apps for museums although I did not try this one. In looking at the website I'm pretty sure I got the official video guide here because I had to find a security person to help me with it. (eyeroll!!)

This is such an excellent museum. It's huge and in 2 buildings connected by an underground corridor.

I went to the Capitoline Museums and the Centrale Montemartini is March 2023. None were at all busy. I wouldn't feel a need to buy a ticket in advance.

The combo ticket saves a bit of money; I assume it's easy to buy at either location; I don't remember which museum I visited first. In Italy it's common to pay an extra fee when you buy a ticket online. That irritates me, so I don't do that except for sites that might sell out or require timed tickets for which some time slots might sell out.
