Cannot find train to Florence on days in January

I’m trying to book trains Rome ↔ Florence (and also Bologna ↔ Florence) for weekends in January 2026—specifically:

  • Fri Jan 9 to Sun Jan 11
  • Fri Jan 16 to Sun Jan 18
  • Fri Jan 23 to Sun Jan 25

But no train tickets are available at all on those dates. Meanwhile, other dates through March 2026 show normal schedules and ticket availability. I checked both Trenitalia and Italo Treno and all other train websites.

Has anyone else encountered this? Does anyone know whether the schedules are simply not yet published but will be added later, or if there’s planned construction or maintenance shutting down train service on those weekends?

I don't think they released the winter timetable eff. after Dec. 14, 2025.
They do construction and maintenance work at night, they wouldn't interrupt service on the Naples-Milan high speed route for entire weekends.
Just check later next month, although it is usually released in November.

Actually the whole Milan to Naples fast line has a backup in the old line, in case of works or sudden interruptions fast trains are routinely rerouted. Services may be delayed but not suspended for works.

I wonder if you have had any luck because I am having the same problem with weekend bookings in January. For example, Napoli-Roma : tickets are available for Thu 22nd Jan and Monday 26th but nothing for the days un between. Is this due to track work? And if so, do they really shut the down the line all weekend?

I can’t imagine those lines being shut down. It’d be like in the States, shutting down an interstate and all surrounding roads for a month. I’m just super dubious

Perhaps one of the locals could weigh in, but I’d be really surprised if you would have any trouble buying a ticket even the day of travel for those major lines during such a dead time.

I just wouldn’t worry about it. Check a few days in advance. Maybe you’ll save a few dollars vs same-day

Hi there! I am having the same issue. I am try to book Rome to
Florence on January 25th.

Trenitalia has trains "purchasable" on Jan 25 beginning at 1 pm. Also has trains purchasable all day on Jan 24
ItaloTreno has no trains listed for Jan 24 or Jan 25.

Something must going on with that line- I would just wait and try every few days.
There are typically several trains every hour so I doubt they will sell out.

They are updating the timetable online because between 24th of Jan at 3:00 pm and the 25th of Jan at 3pm they are starting to replace the Ponte Al Pino overpass, an aerial overpass over the railway near Piazza delle Cure.
The work will start on Jan 24th and that will affect the train traffic after Firenze Campo di Marte going north.
There will be trains going but they will be limited on that day and the schedule will change, hence the timetable update.
