Cancellation of Italy trip and thank you everyone

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to say thank you to those who gave me great advice on my first trip to Italy that was supposed to start today. Unfortunately, my husband injured his leg several days ago, so we had to cancel our trip. We would be at the airport excited about all the plans and journey ahead of us - around now.

People in Italy has been very kind and understanding of our extenuating circumstance. We were not able to get any refund or credit for the flights (Virgin Atlantic - they allowed only date change with fees within 3 months, which my husband is not recovered yet), but fortunately, the credit card we used (Citi) happened to have travel cancellation insurance. So, we think we get the money back which we can use for the next trip.
I am feeling pretty depressed and disappointed about this cancellation, but I understand life happens and trying to get over it as soon as possible.

Please enjoy your trip and be safe.
Take care, everyone, and happy holidays!

Sorry about your husband and your trip cancellation. Don't worry, you'll go again! Keep your planning for next time. For me, half of the fun of going on a trip is looking forward to it. So now you can look forward a little longer!

Sorry about having to cancel your trip and also, of course, about your husband’s injury. This has happenned to us twice and is so disappointing!
.We always have all of our travel plans in the app TripIt and were able to easily rebook our trips bcause everything was so easily accessible, even several years later. We also learned to buy trip insurance and were reimbursed for all non-cancellable expenses 100%. We had to submit detailed medical fecords but it was worth the work. Best wishes to gou both.

Sorry for the injury and cancellation, but you will have a better experience when your husband has had time to recover.

I left for a long trip 28 days after surgery, and the first couple of weeks were hard! In retrospect, I should have delayed the trip.

How difficult and sad for you both. After your husband recovers, reschedule! Whatever happened to airlines giving you and year to use a cancelled flight ticket? Lucky for you that your credit card will reimburse you, but still, that leave Virgin Atlantic with your money and the possibility of reselling your seats. Good luck to your husband in his recovery.

Glad that Citi is coming through. We had to cancel a trip in the hectic days after 9/11. I still remember how disappointing that was.

I hope you reschedule and have a wonderful trip.

How disappointing! But you're right, life happens. As several people have suggested, start planning the next one immediately!

So sorry about your trip and hope your husband's recovery is smooth! We had to cancel a trip a couple of years ago since I had to have surgery- which reinforced our decision to ALWAYS have trip insurance (either through our credit card or purchased) because you just never know! As it happens, the delay worked in our favor - the weather had been ugly when we originally planned to go - we re booked for about 3 months later and the weather was fabulous - truly the best one could hope for!

So hopefully the same will happen to you - you will have the best weather and some amazing experiences!!

Such sad news, but hopefully two years from now, your husband and you will have taken a wonderful trip that you can share with us.

If your husband is mobile enough to go to a restaurant, try to bring a little Italy to you. If not, maybe you could make each of those days a little special with a bakery treat, a movie, etc. And, your husband is probably feeling very guilty & depressed because of both of your plans, so I would pick up a nice card and write something sweet about past times together & future plans to look forward to when he's well again.

And, go splurge tomorrow on some bath salts, and read a good novel, relaxing in the bath. : )

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your kind words. You really helped me.

I will do what you suggested - take it easy, plan for the next trip, relax, etc, etc... The good news is that I would have the time to learn a few more words in Italian, right?

So, thank you. I am almost done with my grief. My husband is doing great recovering from the injury, so I am really happy about that.

Have a great holiday season!

'Atta way to chin up, readygo!

Consider it fortunate that the injury happened at home and not on your trip? As sad as delaying your adventure is, dealing with medical issues on familiar ground is comforting. :O)

Your day will come and you will have a WONDERFUL time so don't put away those guidebooks!
