Can You Recommend a Trulli Masseria?

My wife and I want to stay in a trullo at a masseria with an excellent on-site restaurant with preferred outside dining centrally located for day trips to Martina Franca, Locorotondo, Alberobello and Cisternino. Any recommendations from experience?

We loved our 5 nights at Masseria Aprile (outside of Locorotondo), but they offer a great breakfast only --- not lunch or dinner. You can eat inside or on the veranda. Locorotondo is within walking distance. https://masseriaaprile.it/en

I am happy to help but it would be good to know your price limit, if any, or general price range, in euro.

You will have a car, yes?

The majority of these masseria-hotels serve breakfast, but not as many serve dinner and often this is by prior arrangement and only if enough guests want dinner. But with a car, there are many great restaurants easy to reach from anywhere in the Valley.

I can offer more options when I know more, but for now, here is a masseria outside Ostuni the serves dinner during the high season. Do not know fi they have trulli rooms.

VILLA CENCI has a large pool and trull rooms, with an excellent breakfast. Just outside Cisteernino and easy to reach all the towns you want to see....https://www.villacenci.it/en/relais-masseria/

My honest opinion is that, if you have a car, you ought not decide your accommodation based on being able to have dinner because there are always restaurants nearby that might be better and probably have amore menu choices, than what you would find at the masseria. But this place is often lauded for their restaurant; do not know fi they have trulli rooms, though.

When I was last in Puglia, this past September/October, I specifically chose our masseria because it was within a 5-minute drive of the town of Ceglie Messapica, which many consider the best eating town in the Valley.

So while we had breakfast at the masseria, we drove to Ceglie for either lunch or dinner. There is a restaurant in that town that is always listed as among the best in Puglia, by local food guides as well as on popular websites. If that appeals to you, the place we stayed was MASSERIA CAMARDA. They have a few trulli rooms, a pool, and a lovely and kind host/owner, Alex, whose treatment of guests was outstanding. He even took care of my parking ticket!! This place is also special to auto racing fans.

ekscrunchy - Thank you for your very informative and helpful response. First, we generally splurge on one accommodation during a trip and a trulli masseria would be it, so price range would not be a limit. And yes, we will have a car. When staying at an outlying agriturismo I like to have evening dining on site because I like to enjoy my wine during dinner and not have to be concerned about getting behind the wheel to return home. However, if a restaurant is within a reasonable walking distance from the accommodation, we would certainly do that. I hope this helps if you can think of other facility options.

Give me some time to think about this...the problem is that I don't know for certain which properties have trulli housing and which do not. And the issue of dinner being served is another barrier here....for now, take a look at IL FRANTOIO. That was among the first of the upscale masserie in the area and it seems to still receive great reports.

MASSERIA SALINOLA, would also suit--both are upscale but not at the level of the MOST expensive masserie in the area. (And the MOST expensive/luxury ones do not have trulli rooms as far as I know..)

This is another a property so I know nothing bout it except that they DO have trulli guest rooms and serve dinner: MASSERIA CERVAROLO:

There is another (new) hotel that I've never visited; they do serve dinner and there are trulli on the property but I'm not sure if the rooms are in the trulli, or only some public areas. But the higher quality rooms do have those gorgeous vaulted stone ceilings so you know you are someplace special when you lookup from your bed.. MASSERIA OTTOLIRE, outside Locorotondo; it gets excellent reviews and looks beautiful..

I understand about the driving. And this is more of an issue in Puglia than in other regions because the few taxis that there are charge extremely high prices. Verging on the insane!! (And I do not like driving in the dark)

These properties will probably book out far in advance so let's try to settle on a place sooner rather than later!

If you happen to be traveling elsewhere in Puglia, there is a beautiful hotel not far from Trani where we slept in rooms that had the trull-type conical brick ceilings..LAMA DI LUNA. They now have an onsite restaurant and the location is very close to some of the best retardants I've found in the region. But that's probably way off your route.

Are you going to Matera? Because I'm sure you already know that there are some really special hotels with cave rooms; not trulli but still unique....and from those you can walk or take taxi to some really fantastic restaurants. Could that be the splurge hotel if you cannot find on in the Itria Valley?

If you’re looking for a real splurge, check out the luxurious Borgo Egnazia resort near Fasano, where Justin Timberlake & Jessica Beal flew hundreds of their closest friends for their wedding in 2012.

We were staying at the lovely Masseria Montenapoleone nearby, and having lunch by the sea in Torre Canne one day when we kept seeing well-dressed people in big hats & sunglasses parading into the restaurant. A waiter told us about the wedding.

If Borgo Egnazia is above budget, our masseria was lovely, well located, had a pool, and served great breakfasts. They offered various meals, a cooking class, and they also had a kitchen for guests to use, stocked with olive oil & basic kitchen necessities. The Masseria was well-located for all the towns you mentioned. Highly recommend.

If staying in a trullo plus dinner is what you want, another idea is to rent a trullo in the countryside that has a host who offers meals --- on a different trip, six of us stayed in a big trullo near Cisternino, and we could have accepted the dinner offer, but preferred to cook our own.

The issue is that he wants to stay in a trullo at a lodging that also offers dinner.

It's not so easy, as I've just found from looking.

Good story about Borgo Egnazia. I believe that couple were married at the Coppola property in Bernalda, ,and then had all the guests whisked to BG for the parties. That's what they told us In Bernalda when we visited (did not stay) at Palazzo Margherita, which is the Coppola hotel. in Basilicata.
