Can you help me find this in Italy?

Hi everyone,

Thanks so much for helping us so far with planning our trip.

My better half's father took several pictures while he was in the army many years ago. We'd like to retrace his steps and see some of the same sights. Could you help me identify any of these places? Please post here or in the comments of each photo on Flickr. Thanks so much!!

I recognize most of the pictures with the exception of the statues. Most are the major areas of Rome with a few from Venice. You will recognize when you see it.

I don't have a Flickr account, and I didn't want to create one, but I wanted to let you know that Image 20 is probably in Germany. Top building is insurance (Versicherung), and the bottom one is a travel agency (Reisebüro).

What fun! I ID'd a couple at the Flickr site also. I even found a color version of the "statue" from Pompeii.

Image 17 is a statue of Hercules killing a centaur (which I assume is Nesso/Nessus). Where? I guess the Ufizi but I don't remember it and it is not the more familiar version of the statue.

The photos are really beautiful. It is really fun to see familiar sites with older cars and well dressed folks!

Good ID, Katharine! Here is a reference, in the 1890 Uffizi catalogue, to the statue shown in Court's photo. But I can't find the statue in the current Uffizi inventory, I looked but may have missed it. Court's photo was taken in the 1950s and the statue may have been redistributed to another Firenze museum (given the Uffizi's focus on painting although they certainly have sculptures), or it may be in Sala 1 of the Uffizi, currently closed. As you mentioned, it's not the more familiar version by Giambologna that's located in the open-air gallery (Loggia dei Lanzi) on the Piazza della Signoria in Florence. Here's the excerpt from the Uffizi 1890 catlogue, item 38: Catalogue of the Royal Uffizi Gallery in Florence By Galleria degli Uffizi
