We don't want to miss CT. We have a car in Tuscany and will be staying at a farmhouse in BIbbona, Livorno for 8 days. Can we drive to CT and see its beauty in one day or should we spend one night? We are considering stopping in Lucca on the drive back to Bibbona. How long is the drive and should we try to go on a weekday? We will be in Tuscany from May 8 -15. Grazie!
It's at least 1.5 hours each way to La Spezia. From there you'd take a train.
Or you could drive all the way to Monterosso (via Levanto). That would be maybe 2 hours.
So I'd say at least 2 hours, when everything is said and done.
It's doable as a day trip, but I doubt you can visit all 5 villages with the time available. You have to choose one or two.
Coming back via Lucca is a slight detour. But when can you find the time to do both the Cinque Terre and Lucca in a day? Unless all you want is to check off a 'to visit list' and move on.
You are in Bibbona for a week. You can do Lucca on another day, it's only one hour away by car. What are you going to do the rest of the week otherwise if you visit everything in one day.
