We are leaving on a Sat, in Sept. from Monterosso (Cinque Terre) and eventually trying to get to our Agritourismo (farm resort) in Rapale. The owners say it should take about 3 hours driving time one way - no stops. We need to pick up a Hertz car somewhere and drive to our accommodations that night.
We could do a straight shot there or take the time to stop and see Pisa and Lucca on the way which was recommended. Since we will be at the Agritourismo for a few days and concentrating on things south of that, we would prefer to not backtrack north to see Pisa/Lucca.
Rather than pick up a Hertz car in La Spezia (they are only open for 3 hours that Saturday) where we would also have to take a cab to get to the Hertz for pickup from the train station. In addition, it would mean driving to Pisa and dealing with parking there. So, our thoughts are to:
- Take the early train from Monerorosso all the way to Pisa. Store luggage at Central Pisa Train Station.
- Take bus or cab to Field of Miracles.
- Take bus or cab back to train station.
- Get luggage and take train (?) or cab(?) to Pisa Airport to pick up Hertz car.
- Drive to Lucca and spend 1/2 day there.
- Drive to final destination in Rapale. Need to be there by 8/8:30pm.
Should we take a train or cab to Pisa airport car rental? Simplest way please.
We know we can't see everything, but thinking a stop in Lucca might be nice. Is this do-able?
Thank you.
