Can't Even Get Login to Trenitalia?

I want to book my train tickets on Trenitalia, but when I requested a new account, I never received the email with my password to log in.

I have seen a lot of people have issues with Trenitalia when trying to purchase tickets, but I can't even seem to log on.

Has anyone else had this problem?

It'd be interesting to see if this is happening at a particular step in the registration process. Does it happen when people are trying to buy, and try to register during the purchasing process....or is it happening when people just try to register without purchasing...or both? You can try sending an e-mail of complaint to webmaster at trenitalia.com

Beth, you can avoid a lot of aggravation and just buy your tickets when you're in Italy.

They have automated kiosks in most train stations that accept credit cards and have an english menu. You can buy all your tix in one trip, or just buy them a day or two before you need them. Trains in Italy run relatively often (compared to the US) and in 3 weeks of traveling exclusively by train we never had a problem getting a reservation.

This is assuming you're doing day trains. For sleeper cars you do want to book in advance.

I would try on a different email address. I'd also make sure that the tickets you are requesting aren't too far in advance and re-check you credit card info. If that doesn't work, I'd try a travel agent here (if you are determined to buy in advance). Finally, if the above fails, I'd just buy it at the station - or at a travel agent while in Italy. My Florence hotel told me that Trenitalia is notoriously bad to navigate, so she suggested the travel agent. Good luck!!

Beth, lots of people report having the same trouble as you have had. Sometimes it takes several days before people receive the e-mail with the password. Then sometimes that e-mail never arrives. People have reported being successful by registering all over again, using a different e-mail address from a separate provider.

Hmmm...I have a gmail account, and I got my registration email just fine. I registered before I tried to purchase any tickets. The only time I had any problems purchasing tickets is when I tried to purchase a second set on the same day, but that was most likely my credit card company. Have you tried looking in your junk mail folder (sorry, probably an obvious question)? Do you have an email account with something like gmail or yahoo?

A couple of things that I have noticed using Trenitalia over the last 2 years:

  • Their server goes down often and should be regarded as a normal occurence.

  • Also you cannot purchase tix more than 8 weeks in advance of your journey date.

Perhaps you should try again using another e-mail address. I have Yahoo, and have had no problem with my account with Trenitalia.

We only pre-purchased the tickets for our first train journey before we left. It's easier to just book the rest when you are there. I use the Trenitalia website to see which trains we want to be on, when they leave/arrive etc. I write this info down and take it with me. Then we just buy the tix there.

Beth, you can't get an account using comcast as your email. I tried and failed. Go to yahoo and open an account there. It's free and it works.

I did check my junk mail folder, it's not there. I tried with 2 different emails from Comcast with no luck so far. I am trying to purchase tickets 1 month from now. I think I am giving up and will just get the tickets in Italy.

No matter WHAT I tried, I could not get the Trenitalia site to work. The advice to buy tickets in Italy worked for us, but I did have one leg that I wanted to purchase (we had flights home and I really wanted to know that we would make the flight!!). We bought through ItaliaRail.com. They were cheaper than RailEurope and had a phone number where I talked to a live person who answered all of my concerns.

It just takes them awhile and check your junk mail file, I just got a response from Trenitalia regarding ordering tickets on line and the response was filtered into my junk file.

I tried using a hotmail account and it seemed to work. Thanks!

Beth,

I'm with Mike. We didn't have any problem buying our tickets as we went. The kiosk is easier since you can choose the English menu. If you think a train may be crowded, buy that ticket early in your trip.
