My son and I will be traveling to Rome in June 2011. I have been there before but stayed in a nice hotel that was a little away from the major tourist sites. Can anyone recommend a good hotel near the Pantheon?
You don't say what your budget is. You can try the De La Minerve or the Albergo del Senato. Donna
While I don't want to pay through the roof, the hotel should be in the mid - price range.
Terms like mid-price range or reasonable are nebulous terms meaning different things to different people. Please indicate specific dollar/euro amounts and this forum will be more useful to your planning. While you are considering the dollar/euro amounts try checking with venere.com and tripadvisor.com for hotel selections. Both websites are extremely reputable and they provide pricing, client reviews, and map locations. Buon viaggio, RB
Albergo del Senato overlooks the Pantheon and we paid 275Euro/night for the beginning of September. Great location with nice rooms/large bathroom, and has a rooftop bar for watching the sunset/having a drink snack before dinner.
If you don't have the RS Rome book, it's well worth it for a vetted list of hotels in all price ranges in all neighborhoods.
We stayed at the Albergo del Senato and liked the room. The location is outstanding... looking out our window at the Pantheon, especially at night, was priceless. However, the front desk staff were beyond horrible and unfriendly.
We recently stayed at the Delle Torre Argentina (found it on tripadvisor.com). It's about 4 blocks from the Pantheon and near Campo de Fiore too. We would go back.
I stayed at the Hotel Parlamento a few weeks ago...119 euro/night with breakfast included for a single bed and my own bathroom(pretty typical Italian breakfast fare. I usually like to eat some place besides the hotel in Italy. But they did have a nice roof top area.) The front desk person when I checked in said it was about 100m from the Trevi fountain so not too far from the Pantheon too. The only time I was in my room was to sleep. I checked in and immediately ran over to the Vatican Museum for a Friday night visit...walked around/got lost on the way back...1AM gelato at the Trevi fountain. The hotel is on a little street right off the via del Corso. Me, 43 yr old male traveled solo. I always like to look around on tripadvisor.com and I think I found this place initially at eurocheapo.com
My wife and I have stayed twice at the Hotel Accademia and will expect to stay there the next time we're in Rome. http://www.accademiahotel.com/en/index.php Around the corner from the Trevi Fountain, it's an easy walk to the Pantheon, the Vatican, Spanish steps[INVALID]really, everywhere we wanted to go.
Albergo Cesaro or Albergo Santa Chiara
Look at Hotel Due Torri which is a short walk from Pantheon and many good restaurants[INVALID]located on a tiny quiet street off Via Scrofa. No roof top terrace but a nice little hotel with a very good breakfast and great staff.
Margie I could not find either one of these on Trip Advisor "Albergo Cesaro or Albergo Santa Chiara" am I looking wrong?
Richard: Regarding hotels near the Pantheon, I agree with the previous recommendation of Albergo Cesari (note correct spelling here) or Albergo Santa Chiara. Three different generations in our family have stayed at Albergo Cesari from Grandparents to newly-weds on their honeymoon. We only discovered Albergo Santa Chiara a few years ago when Cesari was booked solid. We highly recommend either one.
Teresa, while I don't know anything about these hotels, here are the tripadvisor links for the hotels (I think):
Santa Chiara:

Edit: JK beat me to it. Thanks for solving the mystery!
Edit2: Here's Cesari's link for completeness.
