Can our GPS car power cable be used in an Italian rental car?

We plan to take our Garmin GPS along with us to use in a Fiat rental. Will the GPS power plug that goes into our American car cigarette lighter also work in a Fiat rental, or do we need to get a special adaptor of some kind?

No problem, it will work, no special adaptor needed.

It will work without a problem. You probably know that, but just in case, remember to check if the cartographic base of Western Europe is embedded on your GPS or not. Many N. American Garmin devices have only a "basic" map of Europe (e.g., highways, major roads and that is it). In that case, you will want to spend US$ 40 to buy an online detailed map of Europe and upload it prior to departure.

Just read your post regarding "cartographic base of Western Europe is embedded on your GPS". My husband and I are planning to use a Garmin in Italy. How do I determine if our GPS has this base? Thanks.

Debbie, the Garmin Nuvi 2370LT, 1370T, 275T and the 775T have europe maps installed at the factory. There may be other models but the ones with a "7" as the next to last digit should have Europe maps. If you have a different model you would need to purchase the Europe maps separately.
