Can anyone recommend a private guide to take us around Sicily? We will be in Taormina for 3 nights and would like to see some of the towns around there. Also, we will be in Palermo for 3 nights and would like to daytrip to Erice.
We can rent a car but wondered if we would actually see and learn more with a guide.
In Taormina, at the bus terminal, there are buses aplenty ready to take you to towns near and far. Ask at your hotel or go to the Tourist Office for advice. Of course, if you have pots of money, private guides are always at the ready, but a bus schedule and a good guide book would do as well. Renting a car is an alternative, as well, and lots of fun. But, to each his own. My final word: Buy a good guide book.
Are the Lonely Planet guidebooks generally reliable for Sicily? I was unable to find a Rick Steve's book for Sicily.
We used the Lonely Planet and the Eyewitness for Italy has a decent section on Sicily.
