Campo de Fiori covered on RS 7 day Rome tour?

We are going on the RS tour May 19. I am planning my free time. I know the first day the tour takes us to Plazza Navona and the Pantheon. I am wondering if it will also cover Campo de Fiori? If not, I am thinking of doing the Heart of Rome Tour on one of our extra days before we begin the actual RS tour. Will this be a duplicate of what we see the first day?

Hi Carol,

Could you do Campo de' Fiori on your own? Campo is south of Navona. Not too far.

You don't need guidance. Perhaps you could read up on it a little bit. The ancient buildings/architecture are beautiful. So, if you want to learn deep about that, then maybe a guide may be good for you.

The biggest draws there are the open markets during the day, the statue of Giordano Bruno - read up on the history if you don't know it.

The side streets or alleys have a lot of cute shops to browse or gift shop. There are a lot of restaurants off the beaten path too. The ones that surround the Piazza(s) in Rome tend to cater more toward the tourist crowds for convenience, maybe. But, they may be priced higher too. Also, they may have a shuffle of people in and out. Most eateries don't push you out after 45 minutes.

My goodness, all you have to do is wander over there. It’s a big open square. Don’t think you’d need a tour guide for that.

I think it will be hard to give you a definitive answer. The guides probably have their favorite routes and where you are staying also have an impact.

I did walk thru the Campo de' Fiori on my 21 Best of Europe. We did the Vatican and St Peters, then took a tram to near the Campo de' Fiori, had a break there and then walked to near the Pantheon for dinner. In looking at the map of the Heart of Rome tour we did part of that (wound up at the Trevi Fountain after dinner then walked back to our hotel near the Termini - it was a 10+ mile day, lol!!)

I'd also suspect after looking at your tour itinerary you'll cover most of those pieces in some of your walks. To me, repeating something doesn't matter. I learn more each time but I understand that there is a lot to see in Rome and you want to use your time wisely.

It’s not very far from Navona Plaza. It’s just a square plaza with a statue in it. During the day there are vendors selling their items; mostly fruits & vegetables. Navona Plaza and the Pantheon area are nicer for people watching.

Why not call the always-helpful RS tour department and ask them if one of the group walks includes Campo de' Fiori? It's so close to Piazza Navona that I'd be surprised if the orientation walk didn't wander through it. It's also an easy walk from Trastevere, so visiting that day is another option.

I expect that your first night's walk will be quite similar to Rick's Heart of Rome Tour route. That's what Rick encourages, but with different guides may be heading to different dinner locations, there can be some variables. You still may appreciate going at your own pace.
