Will be in Rome for a week in May. Have heard the view of the Roman Forum from Campidoglio in the evening is wonderful. Can you walk about there freely without paying admission to the Capitoline Museums? Thanks.
Yes, it's free as long as you don't enter the museums. Just go around to the back side of the museums for the view.

Yes. From the piazza, you'll want to take the small streets on either side of Palazzo Senatorio to viewpoints. It's most impressive from the right side of the palazzo (Via del Campidoglio), IMHO, but give both of them a shot.
