Both are great views, have elevators and don’t take much time. Do both. If you like taking pictures, go right at sunset so you get nice pictures with the blue hour. If you can only do one, Campanile.

I prefer the view from San Marco. The huge bells are amazing and once I was there when the bells rang, fantastic experience. It’s really loud, of course. For pictures, I prefer the view over to San Giorgio Maggiore.

We had every intention of doing both when we were in Venice last October for the VFR Tour but, alas, the Campanile at San Giorgio Maggiore was closed. We did the Campanile at San Marco at sunset and it was stunning, especially as the lights in and around Venice started to come on.

I did both and if you can only do one, I’d say do San Giorgio for amazing views of Venice from across the water….the whole waterfront of Riva degli Schiavone, St Mark’s and its bell tower, the Doges Palace, Santa Maria della Salute and Punta della Dogana (the Customs House), lagoon boat traffic, etc. Almost like an aerial map. And in the other direction you can see into the monastery cloister of San Giorgio as well as outer islands. The light was gorgeous when I went at the end of August 2021, around 5 pm (3 hours before sunset).

Agree completely. It is a view unlike any other of the city.
