Campania Express 2017 Schedule is up

Just an FYI for anyone who has been keeping an eye on this. We were up in the air on how we would get from Napoli to Sorrento and had plan B to just take the Cirrcumvesuviana Regional.

Can someone help me read it? We are going from Napels to Sorrento, what does the "A" and "P" mean on the schedule? Thanks.

Excellent: was hoping it would run again this season.

A = Arrivo (arrival)
P = Partenza (departure)

If you've got bags, it's at night or you simply don't want the train to be stopping 20 times enroute from Naples to Sorrento, the 8,00 Euro instead of 2,50 Euro is well worth it. Advantage of the CV, however, is that they're maybe 3 times an hour, so if you miss it, there's always another one coming shortly.

Super!! I'm going to try it for the bag-impaired trips.

I'm not sure I understand this schedule. I know there are many smart RS Forum people who do, so can someone please tell me what the 8,00 Euro departure times from Naples to Sorrento are?

Also, do you think it's necessary to buy tickets in advance, or could we just buy tickets once we arrive at the Naples train station? Any chance of the tickets being sold out? We plan to travel on June 6th.

Thanks.

Terri, look at the row that says Napoli Garibaldi on the top section -- those are the times the train arrives and departs from the station connected to Napoli Centrale. Then go down the column to the row for Sorrento -- those are the times the train arrives in Sorrento. ALL the Naples-Sorrento trains are €8. The other prices are for shorter trips.
Sadly, the train I will be taking from Orvieto arrives in Naples just after the Express leaves, so I will be travelling on the Circumvesuviana for at least one way.

I wouldn't think tickets will sell out; just purchase them in Napoli.

But as runs for this train are somewhat infrequent, I wouldn't dispense with the regular Circumvesuviana if it would save you considerable time. We've taken it and while it's a battered, bare-bones thing and can be crowded, it gets the job done. Let's just say that I'd take it before I'd waste 2 hours or more waiting for the next express. Just keep a firm hand and sharp eye on your bags, and your valuables stowed safely under your clothing. Really, the same applies to any tourist magnet at all anywhere in Italy.

Thank you for your responses Laura B, Kathy and Darioalb. You guys are awesome. Darioalb, that link you provided was great! I now feel I can make an informed decision whether to take the trains from Rome to Sorrento or whether to take the Marozzi bus. I wasn't crazy about the times offered by the Marozzi bus, so now I have some more options to consider.

When I tried to use this site for an upcoming trip I got the following message that would not allow me to get beyond the number of people & destination
"Sorry but there is no apparent active for this period tariff. Unable to complete the transaction"
What does that mean?

Also, Can't I get this train from the same station I would come into when aI arrive from Rome?

arrive from Rome?

Technically, yes. This train departs from Garibaldi station, which is connected to Napoli Centrale.

As I can't complete a dummy transaction without either registering or inputting my email address, I don't know what your difficulty may be. What date/time are you inputting? Also, I doubt that the express trains will book in advance to capacity as the service is still not very well known, and you could buy tickets upon arrival in Naples.

We will be traveling to the Pompeii and Sorrento area in January. Does anyone know if the Campania Express would run this time of year? Also does anyone know if the ferries or hydrofoils are an option in January? Thanks!

The Campania Express schedule only covered to 15 October -- but the regular Circumvesuviana runs all year.

From:
http://www.positano.com/en/ferry-schedule

"Ferry routes run during the tourist season from the beginning of April through October. During the winter months, the only ferry routes ative are those between Sorrento and Naples, and Naples or Sorrento and the islands."

By "the islands" they mean Capri, Ischia and Procida, and ferries between the latter two may only be from Naples. For other locations on the Amalfi Coast (Positano, Amalfi, etc.) you'll need to use the SITA buses.

How difficult would it be to take luggage when getting off the Campania Express from the Garibaldi station to Napoli Centrale, where he hope to keep in the the "left luggage" area while we go to see the Archaeological Museum? Many stairs or outside walks? We're able-bodied but would rather not drag luggage a distance (lets say more than 600 meters/2000 feet), especially if we are visiting the area for the first time.

thanks!

There are elevators connecting the 2 stations.
Napoli Centrale has its own webpage with maps and, thanks to Google StreetView, you can virtually walk around it.
