I live in this area. I've visited Solfatara a few times, and while it's interesting, it's certainly not something I'd choose over Sorrento or the Naples Archaeological Museum (or really anything in downtown Naples for that matter). There's a nice fairly intact coliseum in Pozzuoli that's worth a visit if you're already in the area, but again, probably not worth a special trip just to see. Beyond that, there are random ruins and similar sites (Cuma and Lago d'Averno come to mind), but nothing that I'd categorize as a "must see." Sorry I don't know of any good local guides.

Cumae, Bacoli (Piscina Mirabilis, Centum Camerellae), Baia (Castello Aragonese and ruins), Lake Averno and Pozzuoli are MUST SEES for students of Vergil, Roman History and Graeco-Roman archeology. They are wonderful venues for any traveller who has a keen interest in these areas.
