We have been trying to get a reply from Giuliano for about a week whether we are confirmed or not at his place and have checked as a second choice Maria Capellini's Charming room for availability. She has been very prompt with her answer. For people who have stayed here, what do you think?

I have not stayed with Maria, but I had a negative experience with Giuliano Basso in 2003. At the time, he was one of the few people with a view terrace that took reservations. We booked well in advance, called several days in advance to re-confirm, called back one day in advance to re-confirm and get instructions. He told us to call him from the train station when we arrived, which we did. He sent someone who showed up and took us somewhere completely different than G. Basso. When I questioned the person, he said that Mr. Basso probably gave our room away and had called him and told him to put us in one of his rooms. He never had the guts to tell us himself (we probably could have found something on our own that was nicer than where he had "shuttled" us off to- no view ,etc.) At that point we took the room and went on to have a great stay in the Cinque Terre. In my opinion, Mr Basso is not as reliable or trustworthy as he could be. If Maria Capellini's doesn't work out, try the web site http://www.acasa5terre.it/houses.html I used this booking service on our last trip and Claudio was very reliable.

I NEVER book anything without checking tripadvisor.com. I found 116 reviews of Camere Giulano. see link below. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much Connie! I had read of an experience like yours on Trip Advisor so now I am really hesitant to wait for a reply from Giuliano. I think I'll move on the Charming room. Thanks again!

Linda, that is why we originally tried booking with Giuliano. We are just frustrated as he has all our credit card information but we have not received a reply when asking for confirmation from him. We love Trip advisor!

we stayed in maria capellini's cozy studio in vernazza that march , no problems. we confirmed the price and dates via e-mail the following day after i had contacted her. the day we arrived they met us at the room and were very kind and full of info. i would stay with her agian when we return. any other q's let me know. good luck :):)
