Camera BAG / what can I do other

I have a camera bag 12 1/2 inches high by 8 inches wide "top " . Would I be able to take this in to places , "going on Rick Steve's 7 day Rome tour. This is all I will be carrying "no purse ect ". I know some places won't let you use a camera but if left inside a bag ?? What could I do the first or second day I am there "by myself " that IS NOT covered by the 7 day / reg. tour events. I am going alone. LOVE seeing little places that are out of the way not the reg. tourist attraction to photograph and just enjoy.
Thanks

Gail, On my last trip I had a camera bag/purse that measured 11" X 13" by 5". It looks like a purse. No one ever glanced twice at it. I don't know why Italy would be any different than Northern Europe in this matter. And if the camera stays in the bag, no issue. I don't know what the RS tour sees in Rome so I can't recommend any specific sites. But as an amateur photographer, I'd get out early in the morning and at sunset. I'd check east and west on a compass, see if the Tigris can play in the picture somehow, etc. and play with my camera. Travestere (sp) is a cute area. Plazas and their churches might also provide some good pictures at this time of day. Have a great time. Wray

I can't make any guarantees, but I never had a problem in Rome last year with my ThinkTank Retrospective 5, which is 10" W x 8.5" H x 6". I recall, in particular, that they were making people check bags at the Barberini Palace, and they looked an my bag and said, "Oh, that's a camera bag. Okay, no problem. Keep it with you." I think that many places are beginning to realize the PR value in letting people take pictures and share via social media. The only exception is the Sistine Chapel, where they are very strict about not allowing photography.

I am not sure what is covered on the 7 day tour. Some of my favorite out of the way places are the Galleria Doria Pamphilj (where they do require a 5 euro photo permit, if you want to take pictures). Also, just about any church is interesting --- the Borromini's San Carlino alle Quattro Fontane and Bernini's Sant'Andrea al Quirinale --- about a block or so away from each other --- are two of my favorites.
