I am heading to Italy in 2 weeks, and want to be able to call my son while I am there.Cell phone will be too expensive, taking into account roaming charges.Am I better off taking a calling card with me,or buying one over there?
I see no one has answered this and though I am not overly familiar with Italy, it probably is not that different from Germany. The best best would be buying a calling card in Italy and either using it from your hotel phone or one of the call centers that are usually at internet cafe`s. You should be able to get a good price of 2 cents a minute or so. A 5 € card should be fine for a start. Ask your hotel to help you use the correct number on the back of the card so you don't get any additional charges at the hotel.
Hi Bobbie
Just returned from two weeks in Italy and initially bought a calling card, but then decided to buy an Italian cell from Vodaphone so that I could use it both locally and to call Canada. The phone was 59 Euro and we bought 25 euro worth of minutes which we did not fully use. The calling card was more reasonable and the cell phone more convenient. We now own the cell and can take it to Europe on furture trips.
Have a great trip.
Thanks for both replies-great advice,I appreciate it!
