Anyone have advice about how to see a calcio/soccer match in the Milan area in mid-September or Rome in early October?
The Weekend of 9th-10th September is an international break, so no league football.
According to the Sky website Inter play AC Milan on the 15th September - a local derby so I suspect tickets will be impossible to get.
Normally, I might advise you to try and get a train to Turin (Another City with two top flight teams) - but Juventus vs Napoli on the 16th is also likely to be a sell out.
1st October, Roma play Frosinone
8th October Lazio play Atalanta
Things may have changed since I last went to an Italian football match - but last time I had to buy a ticket at least the day before (normally from a club shop) and as a non Italian I needed to show ID.
See if they have tickets available for Inter-Milan on Saturday 16 Sept. at 18:00 local time.

Or check any other game you might be in town for:
If you go for Rome, I went to a game in Jan 2023, and here's how I purchased tickets
Register yourself on the Roma website beforehand. https://www.asroma.com/en/tickets
Tickets go on sale about a month - 6 weeks in advance. Set up an alert.
I purchased tickets on 2 Dec for 15 Jan game. I decided to pay a little extra and sit in Tribuna Monte Mario section. I paid 59 for adults and 14 for kids.
You will need to name each ticket holder and show passports on the way in. They take this seriously for all tickets
I felt relatively safe, we chose a good part of the stadium and had great views.
We loved the game, and the seats were perfect, so if you go to a Roma match then this is a recommended approach. Of course, you could try your luck at a ticket counter when you arrive in Rome.
