Would love recommendations for a couple of good hotels in Calabria. Any area that you found interesting. I'm told that Tropea and Scilla are nice. Any info appreciated.
Allison, did you read the traveler reviews in Trip Advisor? If you have any questions you can send PM's to many of the posters. We learned, a long time ago, that a review posted by someone in the EU can be "glowing" when the rental is less than perfect...so caveat emptor! Seriously, we alwasys vett any place we are considering on TA, and we use TA to sort and rank lodging choices.
Can't recommend the place we stayed in but yeah, Tropea is a nice visit for a few hours/ half a day.
We have been to Lamezia Terme in Calabria many times because that's where my folks come from. There are three communities that comprise this area: 1. Nicastro, 2. Sambiase, and 3. Lamezia. We always stay at the Hotel Savant in Nicastro. It is a modern property with a great staff. Since 2008 we have noticed more Americans and Canadians at the hotel. The staff is fantastic, especially Frederico. You can reference this place on tripadvisor.com. http://www.hotelsavant.it/ By the way, my favorite pizzeria in the whole world is Pizzeria da Zi Pino 20 minutes up the coast in Falerna Marina. The Cafe Vittoria also in Falerna Marina serves outstanding gelato. Buon viaggio,
I spent three days in Tropea last summer and loved it. There are different areas of the city with different beach access; you can check booking.com for information, photos, and reviews. I stayed at the Terrazza sul Mare, which has a long (long) staircase down to one of the beaches, and it's a 5-minute walk into town.
