Arriving in Rome, plan to head south to Calabria. What is best way to get there, and any great places to stay? Will also see Amafi, Sorrento on way back north to Rome. Any advice for places to stay?
We stayed at the 'Residenza il Barone' in Tropea, Calabria for a week a couple of years ago. They are still getting fantastic reviews on Tripadvisor. The couple who run it are wonderful. Tropea is a beautiful town with unequalled beaches. Reggio in Calabria has a fantastic archaeological museum, and a great seaside promenade. It would be helpful to be able to speak a bit of Italian, as you won't find much English spoken in Calabria. We flew from Rome to Reggio and picked up a rental car at the airport. We loved Calabria, very few tourists other than Italians, hope you enjoy it!
Here is a link for a great travel resource for Calabria - trip planning, B&b's, and more.

We stayed at http://www.villaanticatropea.it/villaanticatropea/public/home.php and would certainly go back. http://ilcedro.com/ is also a really good choice (in Catanzaro.)
