We arrive in Rome from Torino on a Saturday afternoon. Our lodging is near the colosseum. Is Sunday a good day to do the Caesar Shuffle? If the crowds inside each sight (i.e. colosseum, etc. ) are too heavy then we'd likely view from the outside and return another day (in Rome a week). Is this a reasonable expectation for an October Sunday in Rome?
Just a quick one for Nick - it may be a Rick Steves colloquialism - his podcast from two weeks ago included a segment on the 'Caesar Shuffle'

•Rick's "Caesar Shuffle" stroll includes many of Rome's major historical sites from two-thousand years ago. He discusses them in his free downloadable walking tour of Rome
You can do the RS "Caesar Shuffle" at any time, day or night. In fact, if you simply stroll around the "historic" center by Pantheon and Piazza Navona - you will see much of it even if you don't follow Rick's walking system. So, feel free to "shuffle" at will. It makes a great "first day" introduction to Rome to launch you on your Rome exploration. You can choose to do parts of it or the whole route at will.
I thought it was for playing cards. ;-)
