Cabs for family of five

I will be travelling into FCO at the end of July with my husband and three kids (17, 15, 12) and three mid sized suitcases. I'm assuming that we will be taking a cab to the condo we have booked, but all I ever see is reference to 4 people in cabs. Can anyone tell me if they have van sized cabs in Italy like they do here?

I would definitely book a transfer to ensure a big enough vehicle. If you need the occasional cab while in Rome, tell the dispatcher you need a taxi for 5, or if you go to a cab stand tell one of the drivers waiting what you need. They will call someone for you if there is not a larger cab at the stand.

Or would anyone suggest taking public transit instead? We are staying in Trastevere.

From the airport with luggage, you can take the Leonardo Express to Termini, but it is at least Euro 17.00 per person. You can get a transport door-to-door for less.

Yes, for five people, mass transit will be more expensive than a pre-booked car or a taxi. Make it easy - book a car in advance, so you're sure it will not only fit five people, but also all your luggage.

Check out a company known as Rome Cabs. It is a private car service (not a cab company) but only cost a little more than a regular taxi. We always use them and have always been very pleased. Go to romecabs.com and see what you think. If interested send an email detailing your needs and they will give you a quote usually within 24 hours.

I have twice used a company named "Romashuttle". The first time was we were a group of 8 and the driver showed up with a spotless van that held exactly 8 passengers and luggage. With a group like that, it is much easier having everyone in 1 vehicle, instead of using multiple cabs or paying for individual tickets on the train from FCO. The second time we did it with a group of 5. Our plane was about 1 hour late, but the driver waited for us without any extra charges. The last time I used them was 2015, so my recommendation is 3 years old.
